Barcelona Hospital Documents — The Medical Evidence

In October 2019, Gaetane Claire Gagnon suffered a cardiac arrest while staying with her daughter Valerie Gagnon in Sitges, Spain. She was transported to Hospital Sant Camil, then transferred to Hospital del Mar in Barcelona for emergency cardiac intervention — two coronary stents implanted, six medications prescribed. The word MANDATORY appears in capital letters on a Spanish hospital document because Valerie Gagnon demanded it be written in English. She was building the evidence before anyone would listen.

While her mother was in the hospital, Dr. Pierre Paul Gagnon — calling from Alexandria, Virginia — contacted the hotel where they had been staying for 30 days and told staff that his daughter was trying to kill her mother. He called the hospital repeatedly, claiming to be the legal guardian and refusing to authorize the operation. He called his wife every hour urging her to leave the hospital without her luggage and fly back to Alexandria. The Barcelona cardiologists performed the operation regardless.

The Significance

These documents establish three facts beyond dispute:

  1. Gaetane Claire Gagnon suffered a heart attack in October 2019 and had two coronary stents implanted.
  2. She was prescribed six cardiac medications — dual platelet therapy described as MANDATORY for a minimum of 12 months.
  3. These documents were written in English at Valerie Gagnon’s explicit request — because she anticipated her father would deny his wife’s cardiac condition.

When Valerie Gagnon reported deliberate medical abuse to Adult Protective Services (Agent: Mrs. Cannaday) in January 2021, she provided these documents as evidence. APS closed the case. When Valerie independently registered her mother with VITAS palliative care, nurses confirmed within hours that she was receiving zero cardiac medications.

Two FOIA requests for the resulting 475-page APS case file were subsequently denied.
